Cyclical World: Buddha concept or Eastern harmony

BD02

Through his architectural design works, Yushi Uehara aims to create a place where ideas from the East and the West, technology and experiences become one. It is a meridian, zerodegree where east meets west. Here, Yushi Uehara applies concepts of cycle, which Uehara calls a Buddha Concept. Daylights, activities run through a day and seasons. Our life is build up with certain repertoire and architecture support them phenomenon. In order for us to start an architectural project, we can form brief from the demands set by our daily experiences. Our concept is to apply inspirations from the East to this process and learn and create new way of how a Western architecture can be born anew.

In the East men say that Buddha had this vision of a cyclical world. Men reincarnate after going through six more beings: A flower, a bug or a cow. Everything on this earth support each other. The world transforms endlessly. Fullness and Emptiness are two faces of one world, a rotating sphere. Experiences of Open and Closed spaces, youth, technology or function are things that transform, cyclically changing behaviors in different cycles, some over a very long time and others within a short period of time.

Japan has reputation in austere external beauty; aesthetic sensibilities found its way into the minimalist design; spaces with every object, view and experience carefully arranged. This derives from a progressive internals of design works. In the West meetings are for information sharing discussions and then making decisions. It set a goal that a design has to achieve. This sometime result in a design that does not do what is agreed. On the contrary a Japanese process sees meeting as a time to ratify information that has previously been processed. For design discussion this is useful. There is less of dead end design products. Instead, design studies are made in advance to any discussions and its findings are communicated before the decision making. This serves to omit confrontation between client and architect on their views on design.

Zerodegree Architecture pushes the boundary of architectural design. Small but important; this is our practice.
